The Trans-Gen's Life is like Literature

Life as we know it is always changing. It is one of the things here on Earth that's not permanent. Every day, life is created and destroyed and it is really wonderful how it doesn't stay stagnant in a very long time.

The group of people I like to call "trans-gen" (transition generation) has witnessed the change of life. As part of the trans-gen group I have witnessed the change of technology, meaning of fun, and culture for the past 16 years. Discussing all the changes that happened over the past one and a half decade would take an entire book and I don't have time to create a book but I plan to do it in the near future. But I will discuss on this blog some of the memorable changes that I have witnessed.

Let's start with technology, on the early parts of 2000's technology in the Philippines is really low. If you want internet connection, you need to have a telephone because all internet connections at that time are dial-up. Aside from really slow connection, you can't use dial up internet together with the telephone and that sucks especially when one member of your family really likes to stay on the phone for a really long time. Now internet is fast compared to the early 2000's and most of the Internet connections today are wireless that's why you can use your telephone while using the internet.

Now let's discuss the meaning of fun. On the early 2000's the meaning of fun is going outside with your friends in the afternoon and play all the games that you can think of and go home all sweaty and dirty and if the sun is too hot to play outside, you can go to your friends house and also play various games like board games, primitive RPG (bahay-bahayan, etc.). Then came the mid 2000's where various game consuls appeared. It all started with the brick game, then the Nintendo Gameboy, then went to Sony's PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP until it all went to this day. Today the meaning of children's fun is Apple or Android and as an outgoing person I have witnessed the slow disappearance of playing children in the streets because they're all to busy with their Apples and Androids.

Finally let's talk about culture, There has been a massive change in culture in the past years and I will focus on neighbor cultures. On the early 2000's based on my experience, neighbors often visit each other at the weekends at around 10:00 in the morning and they will often bring some of the food that they have cooked for the Saturday lunch as a sort of offering. They will also talk for hours just to catch up with the news in the community and this visit will basically end at around 11:30 when it is time for lunch. But as time goes by, this practice also lessens maybe because that families today are busy at work or school and the only time that they can rest is during the weekends or maybe they’re just to busy with their technology.

The change that has happened in our society today is like Literature. Literary works also changes as time goes by. Some rules that are used during the modern times are no longer used in the contemporary times. Today readers are required to think and use their imagination more compared to literary works made on the early days that we’re to direct. Change is inevitable some may say that it is good; some may say that it is bad but the only thing that we can say for sure is that we don’t control it.
